Not your ordinary wrap

Temporary living situations encourage you to get creative with what you have to eat.

Today it was rice, carrot, buffalo, soy, lettuce wraps.
Yum!

Thailand Sights

Here are a few pictures of everyday life around our city in Thailand.

The small temples that seem to pop up around every corner

Large pictures across the road - usually of the king

Little flowers that often fall and sprinkle the sidewalk

A place to wash your clothes

Some cute apartments

Aisle signs at TESCO/Lotus (like Walmart)
(10 points if you can tell me what a "monk basket" is)

Thai Cooking Class

Although waiting for our son to come can get a little boring, we're trying to find things to do. Eric has been working on an online class, and I've been... mining? And working on our EA scrapbook. Today though we got out and spent 700 baht ($25) a person on a Thai cooking class!

They picked us up in the morning along with two other American women, and we headed to the school. We met our instructor for the day and the four other students - a German couple and an Italian couple. First, we were taken to a local market where our instructor told us about different kinds of curry, rice, noodles, and tofu.

Back at their garden we also learned about different kinds of herbs and vegetables they use. After that we had a "welcome snack" and got to make a curry paste, curry dish, appetizer, noodle dish, and soup. It all turned out really good, but I think our favorites were Pad see uw and Coconut milk soup. Yum!

Night Safari

One attraction just outside the city is the Night Safari. Think Jurassic Park meets The Lion King. There are two tram rides where we got to see various animals, and then there's a path around the lake that you can walk. We also paid 250 baht (~$8) to get our picture taken with a "baby" white tiger. If you know Eric, you know this was a highlight.

The tram rides were good for viewing, but not for photos. A) you couldn't use flash, and B) they didn't often stop long enough to get a night shot. So below is a game. See if you can guess the correct animal in the picture.

1. A) wild boar B) kangaroo C) lizard D) crocodile

2. A) deer B) serow C) lizard D) crocodile

3. A) black flamingo B) lama C) barasinghas D) ostrich

4. A) giraffe B) deer C) Thai donkey D) impala

5. A) porcupine B) salamander C) crocodile D) Komodo dragon

6. A) vulture B) painted stork C) Asiatic crane D) blue heron

7. A) tapir B) man in bear suit C) Asiatic black bear D) hyena

8. A) lion B) lynx C) antelope D) puma

9. A) mouse deer B) possum C) eastern groundhog D) red kangaroo

Answers:

1. B) kangaroo

2. A) deer

3. D) ostrich

4. A) giraffe

5. C) crocodile

6. B) painted stork

7. C) Asiatic black bear

8. D) puma

9. A) mouse deer

The photos reminded me of going to the zoo on our 6th grade class trip and taking pictures of all the animals. And then after you got your photos developed, you saw all these great pictures... of animals. Oh, I was so cool back then.

Birthing Class

Today was our second birthing class. There are three other couples and an amazing instructor. We met at her home, and today we talked about the stages of labor and practiced birthing positions. I love, love, love sitting on that ball. We got to borrow one, and it's the most comfortable thing for me right now. In other exciting news, I can walk better every day! Praise the Father for that!
