School is here!

School has arrived and with it comes our new life. I'll admit I'm a bit stressed about all that has to happen in the next few days. A quick recap:

Last week:

  • Thomas Jefferson staff retreat - meet everyone including my "family" (aka team) of five teachers (Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies) that all of our students will share. We have about 900 students at our school, so there are three families at each grade level.
  • New Teacher Induction - yuck. A whole day of district policies, benefits, cultural competence, and special ed. It used to be five days. Are you kidding me??
  • Eric started part-time stay-at-home-dad duties.
  • Malachi got sick and was throwing up. Always fun. :)
  • My sister Melissa came to visit. It was a quick weekend, but we managed to walk/run to the farmer's market, take Malachi to visit the home where he has daycare, go to the seminary and hang out, watch a lot of Olympics, and just chill.
This week:
  • Classroom work day, "family" work day, content area work day and new ESL teacher training, computer/technology training morning (when I'll get my laptop!) and student orientation evening, and the first official staff day. It's crazy how much we have to learn and even more how much there is left to do before students come on Tuesday next week!
  • Eric started classes! He really liks them so far. He also started taking Malachi to daycare.
  • Yes, Malachi started daycare! He'll go three days a week. The first day was pretty good, but he hadn't slept well the night before, so he had a rough evening. I guess today though was great! And he was awesome all evening. So fun to come home to. And we're really so thankful for the Des Moines family who is watching him. They have a boy who's 4 and a girl who's almost 2. It's great!
  • Tomorrow one of the students we worked with in China is going to be visiting from Cali! She's an international student and is doing some traveling this summer. We're really excited to see her.
And in the middle of it all, we're trying to adjust to new roles and responsibilities within our family, be patient with frustrating slow computers, and get things done like buying groceries. Ya right! You can pray for us. :)
